I have been working with Tom Balderas, a most generous and informative teacher as well as a gifted painter. Done in his class, with some tweaks at home, I'm happy with the results.
Done from a photo taken at the beach, this painting exemplifies my new efforts to simplify and to push color and values. It does not come easy for me so I am happy with the results of this.
This paint sketch was done from a reference photo supplied by Lee Brown's blog, A Day Not Wasted. Though it was November's challenge, Lee kindly allowed me to use it in February!
I'm not sure if I have painted horses before but like every other painting it's about finding the lights, darks and color shapes. The foal was a little challenging only because it kept looking like a Great Dane...ha!
If you think this looks familiar it's because it is. I painted this recently but there were elements that I thought could be improved...hopefully it is now improved and done!
There is something about this orange that really appealed to me. The color of the orange was so bright and fresh looking, and the way the leaves draped on the orange are worn like a party hat...I love a party!
