Out With The Old...

On this first day of 2014, I want to wish all of you a happy New Year filled with joy and prosperity.  The gift of your support as a viewer of this blog supports me in ways that I cannot adequately express, but please know that it has always meant a lot to me and to my art.

In looking back over the past year, I realize that my postings have been way down to almost half of the previous year.  That was not because I wasn't painting but because I was not making the kind of art that excites me.  I am still struggling with that a bit but I am trying to do things to shake things up including letting go of the many, many pieces of art that sit in my studio and garage.
I will be painting anew on many of these pieces in order to stretch and play, at least that is my plan. The painting "Rooftop Abstract" above is the first of these.  I am putting it on the DPW auction with a starting bid of $1 with the hope of it finding a new home.  Shipping and handling will still apply.

  1. Well done, Dana! I love the variety of your subject matter. I know what you mean about paintings accumulating. I admire you for giving them new life.

  2. I, too, have posted much less this year. I don't think my reason is quite the same as yours. However I have been doing a ton of figurative from life (my favorite thing) and I don't always have something to say... at least in words!... about every piece.
Like you, I'm also going down the rework avenue. I've realized that I have many many paintings that could possibly be better with the knowledge I now have. In any event, I think the reworking may be a further learning experience for me.
I love the rose piece. The light through the vase, the frontal red rose, the suggestion of the pink roses and the complements of red and green... all very beautiful.
    Here's hoping you have a marvelous 2014.

  3. I just wrote a long comment but it disappeared into the ether!
Suffice it to say, I, too, have posted much less this year though I'm painting just as much. And I'm also going back and reworking, readjusting maybe, some older pieces to make them better, I hope!
I love your roses, the red/green complements, the light through the vase, that frontal red rose and its delicate companions, all combine to make a lovely piece.
Here's hoping your 2014 is a a wonderful year... and I hope this comment does not disappear!
